I think happy endings are relative. Each person has a different definition of a happy ending. For example, some people define a happy ending as overcoming addictions. I believe that definition is especially accurate since so many people succumb to their addictions. In fact, I think you're well on your way towards a happy ending.

Secondly, I like how you've self-identified that you're doing the right things--cutting out alcohol, reducing cigarettes, exercising, and pursuing a writing career. You have your outline for your success.

I don't buy any of the self-doubts that we sell to ourselves. We all know what has to be done, and we just need to do it. No excuses.

Overall, I thought your story was raw, real-world, and inspirational. I thought these three aspects are your story's strengths. I also appreciated how conversational your writing is, and I think you can achieve the writing success you are striving for.
